combined child autism and adhd assessment

From 5 Years of Age

about package 7

At Brilliant Minds Psychology, we understand that every child’s brain works differently. Our Combined Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Assessment helps families gain a deeper understanding of their child’s unique strengths, challenges, and learning needs.
Many children show signs that overlap between Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and understanding both together provides the most complete picture of how your child thinks, learns, and interacts with the world.
This assessment is ideal if your child:
  • Struggles with focus, attention, or sitting still
  • Finds social communication or friendships tricky
  • Shows strong interests or routines
  • Becomes easily overwhelmed by sensory experiences
  • Finds it hard to stay organised or manage emotions
By assessing both Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) together, we can identify your child’s strengths, understand areas where they may need extra support, and provide clear recommendations for school and home. Our approach is neuro-affirming. We don’t see Autism or ADHD as problems to be fixed, but as different ways of thinking and being. We focus on helping your child grow in confidence, use their strengths, and thrive in all parts of life. Please note: While this assessment provides a comprehensive picture, a formal diagnosis is only given if criteria are met.

The assessment breakdown/how it works

We know that booking an assessment for your child can feel like a big step. Our goal is to make the process simple, supportive, and stress-free, so you know exactly what to expect along the way. Below is a simple outline of what happens at each stage:
Session 1: Parent / Guardian Intake Session (3 hours)
  • What happens: We meet with you (without your child) to gather detailed information about your child’s development, behaviour, learning, and health.
  • Why it matters: This gives us the full picture of your child’s strengths, challenges, and daily life.
  • Where: In clinic or via telehealth
SESSION 2: CHILD SESSION 1 - COGNITIVE ASSESSMENT (2 Hours)
  • What happens: Your child completes a cognitive assessment using either the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence - Fourth Edition (WPPSI-IV) or the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children - Fifth Edition (WISC-V).
  • Why it matters: This helps us understand your child’s thinking, learning, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Where: Must be done in clinic

session 3: child session 2 - attention assessment (1 hour)

  • What happens: Your child completes an attention-focused assessment, either the Test of Everyday Attention-2 (TEA-Ch2), or for older children, the Conners Continuous Performance Test (CPT-3) and Conners Auditory Test of Attention (CATA).
  • Why it matters: This shows how your child focuses, stays on task, and manages distractions, which is essential for understanding ADHD-related challenges.
  • Where: In clinic

session 4: child session 3 - Autism Assessment

  • What happens: Your child participates in the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, 2nd Edition (ADOS-2).
  • Why it matters: This is the gold-standard tool to observe social communication, interactions, and behaviours associated with Autism
  • Where: In clinic

session 5: parent/guardian feedback session (1 HOUR)

  • What happens: We meet with you to explain the results, discuss your child’s strengths and areas of need, and give clear recommendations for home, school, and other supports.
  • Where: In clinic or via telehealth
  • A detailed written report is provided, summarising all assessments and recommendations.

cost - $4250

Your child’s assessment is a comprehensive, in-depth process that involves 15 hours of dedicated clinical time, including parent intake, direct assessment with your child, scoring, analysis, report writing, and a detailed feedback session.
This fee reflects the care, expertise, and time our psychologists invest to ensure every report is meaningful, accurate, and tailored to your child’s unique strengths and needs.
A $550 deposit is required at the time of booking to secure your assessment. This deposit is non-refundable due to the significant preparation and appointment time allocated for each family. If you have private health, please contact your provider to see how much they can cover for you. The general private health code for assessment is 100. NDIS does not cover diagnostic assessments.
  • The package includes:
  • All testing sessions with an experienced psychologist
  • A detailed written report with personalised recommendations
  • Parent and teacher questionnaires (hard copy and postage included)
  • A one-hour feedback session to go through results and next steps

What to Expect When Booking an Assessment

We understand that organising an assessment for your child can feel like a big step. Our friendly admin team is here to make the process smooth and stress-free from your very first call.
when you call to book
  • When you first contact us, our team will have a brief chat to understand your child’s needs and confirm the most suitable assessment package. You’ll then be asked to complete two short forms: (1) Screener Form - helps us confirm that the assessment you’re requesting is the right fit for your child’s needs (2) Assessment Consent and Deposit Agreement - outlines the process, cost, and booking details.
  • Once both forms are returned, we’ll contact you with available assessment dates. When you’ve chosen a date that suits you, we’ll take your $550 non-refundable deposit over the phone to secure the booking (Please note: bookings cannot be held without a deposit.)
WHEN YOU ARE BOOKED
After payment, you’ll receive a confirmation email with:
  • Your assessment date and times
  • The clinician’s name and clinic details
  • A breakdown of what to expect on the day
  • Access to your Brilliant Minds assessment forms and online standardised questionnaires - to be completed one week before your appointment
These forms allow our clinicians to review your child’s background information ahead of time so that your intake and assessment sessions are as effective and personalised as possible.

not sure which assessment to book?

  • If you’re uncertain about which assessment best fits your child’s needs, we offer Assessment Consultations with our regular assessment Psychologists.
  • This is a short 50 minute, standalone appointment where a psychologist discusses your concerns and recommends the most appropriate assessment pathway.
  • The consultation has a separate fee to the overall assessment cost, but in some cases, we may be able to credit part of this cost towards your full assessment if you proceed with booking.

teacher questionnaires

Brilliant Minds Psychology provides hard copy teacher questionnaires as part of your child’s assessment package, in line with Queensland Education Department policies. Preparation of the hard copy questionnaires, handling and postage, including tracking, is included in your assessment fee. We will email you and your child’s teacher to let them know the questionnaires are on its way.
Please note: We kindly request that completed teacher questionnaires be returned at least one week prior to your child’s assessment. Questionnaires received after the date of the assessment may not be able to be included in the final report.
