Early Years Developmental Screening
What is the purpose of this assessment?
Our early developmental screening is designed to help understand how your child is growing during their most important years. By picking up on any challenges early, we can offer support when it makes the biggest difference. Early intervention helps your child build confidence, independence, and the skills they need to thrive now and as they grow.
Who is this tailored to?
This screening service is mainly designed for childcare centres and kindergartens that want to check in on how children are developing, spot any early challenges, and get helpful strategies to support them in their learning environment.
How The Screening Process WorksBefore the SessionWe’ll send parents a short information pack and screener forms before the screening. This will explain what the session involves and give you a chance to share any concerns about your child’s development. The childcare/kindy will also be sent a short screener form to complete.
During the SessionOur occupational therapists will observe children in their usual kindy or childcare setting. Each therapist can observe up to 5 children per hour (15 minutes per child). If more children need to be seen, we can either extend the session or bring in an extra therapist.
What We Look ForWe’ll observe your child’s development in key areas such as:- Social and emotional skills- Sensory responses- Motor skills (fine and gross)- Understanding body cues- Play and learning abilities- How they adapt to their environment
After the SessionEach family will receive a brief/short written summary, including what we observed and any recommendations for further support if needed. With parent consent, the kindy can receive a copy. How Do I Book? We’re currently offering this service on Wednesdays and are welcoming new childcare centres and kindergartens to participate.
To book or learn more, please contact our Clinic Manager, Mya, at mya@brilliantmindspsychology.com.au or simply complete the contact us form below.
Please note: This screening is a general screener of developmental milestones and school readiness. It is not a formal diagnostic assessment. If further concerns are identified, we can guide you through the next steps, including accessing a separate assessment service if needed.PricingThe total cost for the observation session (1.5 hours for 5 children and 1.5 hours for summary letters) is $581.97, shared among the five families.
Funding: If your centre has access to Kindy Uplift funding, this service can be provided at no cost to families. Otherwise, the cost can be divided among families, making it $116.39 per child (should 5 children be in attendance)
