Information for GPs: Collaborative ADHD Pathways
With recent changes enabling GPs to diagnose ADHD and prescribe stimulant medication, we are committed to building strong, supportive partnerships with medical practitioners. Our goal is to provide comprehensive psychological assessment that complements your diagnostic role, ensuring children and families receive seamless, high-quality care.
If you are a GP registered to diagnose ADHD and prescribe stimulants, we would love to collaborate with you.
Our Role as Psychologists in the ADHD Diagnostic Process
Psychologists play a crucial role in assessing the cognitive, behavioural, and functional aspects of ADHD. While GPs oversee medical evaluation, differential diagnosis, and medication management, our assessments provide the detailed neuropsychological profile needed to understand how ADHD affects a child’s day-to-day learning, behaviour, and development.
Why Psychological Assessment Matters?
- Clarifies cognitive strengths and areas of concern: Children with ADHD often have uneven skill profiles. Understanding this helps guide support at home and school.
- Assesses executive functioning: We evaluate attention, impulse control, working memory, organisation, planning, and processing speed.
- Identifies comorbid learning or developmental difficulties: Cognitive assessment helps differentiate ADHD from (or identify ADHD alongside) learning disorders, anxiety, or emotional factors.
- Supports diagnostic accuracy: We provide behavioural data, standardised testing, and clinical insights that strengthen the overall diagnostic picture.
- Guides evidence-based intervention: Our reports include clear, practical recommendations for parents, teachers, and other professionals
Package 1: The Cognitive and Behavioural Assessment (ADHD)
This assessment is designed for children experiencing difficulties with attention, concentration, hyperactivity, or behaviour at home or school.
What The Assessment Involves
- A comprehensive evaluation of cognitive abilities, including reasoning, memory, processing speed, and problem-solving.
- A detailed assessment of executive functioning, which underpins planning, focus, emotional regulation, and self-control.
- Behavioural screening, developmental history, and parent-teacher input.
What Families Receive
- A detailed written report outlining results.
- A clear explanation of the child’s learning and attention profile.
- Practical, personalised recommendations for home and school.
- Guidance for next steps, including whether the results support an ADHD diagnosis.
- Please note: While this assessment contributes to ADHD diagnosis, a formal diagnosis is made only where clinically appropriate. Our findings always reflect the child’s presentation and test results.
